Ana Maria Labin won First Prize in the Concours Ernst Haefliger, the Swiss singing competition organised between the Bern Opera and the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad. Upon graduating from the International Opera Studio of the Zurich Opera House Ana Maria Labin made her professional début as Celia in Mozart's Lucio Silla, conducted by Adam Fischer at the Mannheimer Mozartsommer. She repeated this role in the revival the following year conducted by Dennis Russell Davies.

Ana Maria Labin made her début at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan as Valencienne in Die Lustige Witwe in a production by Pier Luigi Pizzi under the baton of Asher Fisch. She sang Euridice in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice in Zurich in a production by Serge Honegger and participated in the New Year’s Eve concerts of the Aargauer Kammerorchester under Cristoforo Spagnuolo singing Hanna Glawari in Léhar’s The Merry Widow.

Ana Maria Labin’s opera engagements have also included the roles of Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Cupidon in Offenbach's Orphée aux enfers and Ines in Donizetti's La Favorita for the Opéra de Montpellier, Manto in Agostino Steffani's Niobe, Regina di Tebe under Thomas Hengelbrock at the Schwetzingen Festival and a new production of Purcell's King Arthur by Corinne and Gilles Bénizio (alias Shirley & Dino), under Hervé Niquet with Le Concert Spirituel at the Festival of Radio France and Montpellier at Montpellier Opera House. This production was revived in the Spring of 2009, and recorded for broadcast on French Television and for release on DVD. Further performances of this production are scheduled for next year in Japan.

Ana Maria Labin’s concert engagements have included a song cycle by Richard Dubugnon at the Festival Présences of Radio France under the musical direction of Alain Altinoglu and Luciano Berio’s Sequenza III , and concerts under David Zinman and Christopher Hogwood at the Zurich Tonhalle. She returned to the Festival Présences of Radio France for the world premiere of a work by Dominique Lemaître with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI under the batton of Daniel Kawka.

Ana Maria Labin recently made her début at the Vienna Konzerthaus singing Sara in Haydn’s Il ritorno di Tobia and The Creation in the Congress Innsbruck and the Philharmonie in Luxembourg with the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Philharmonic under Adam Fischer. Other concert engagements this month include a tour to Italy and Turkey with the English Concert under Harry Bickett singing Vivaldi’s motet In furore iustissimae irae and arias from Handel’s Giulio Cesare and Rinaldo.

Ana Maria Labin’s future engagements include Klara in Die Welt auf dem Mond (Il mondo della luna) by Haydn under Julia Jones at the Jennersdorf Summer Festival in Austria, Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte under Lawrence Foster in Montpellier and at the Théatre du Châtelet, Paris, and Ravel’s Shéhérazade in the Festival Présences of Radio France in Shanghai. In 2012 she makes her début at the Opéra de Paris as Valencienne in Die Lustige Witwe.

Ana Maria Labin was born in Bucharest and was raised in Switzerland. She has been a Swiss citizen since 1997. She speaks fluent English, French, German, Italian and Rumanian.
